Optimal arrival-time distribution for delay capture in spread-spectrum packet radio networks
نویسنده
چکیده
The optimal arrival-time distribution that maximizes the delay-capture probability in spread-spectrum packet radio networks is derived. It is shown that using the optimal arrival-time distribution, the capture probability converges to a finite value as the number of contending users increase. Normalized throughput and average delay is computed for slotted ALOHA random access packet radio networks employing direct-sequence spread-spectrum modulation. I t is shown that large performance improvements may be expected by optimizing the arrival-time distribution compared to the uniform arrival-time distribution assumed by Davis and Gronemeyer [I]. Three practical realizable modifications are considered which are shown to provide performance close to the optimum.

Transport Control Based on Spectrum Switching Detection in Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks
Cognitive Radio is an intelligent wireless communication technology which can improve the radio spectrum utilization through opportunistically accessing the vacant portions of the spectrum. Due to the time-varying spectrum availability, a cognitive node has to perform spectrum switching frequently, which causes severe delay and high packet loss. Therefore, network protocol design for cognitive ...

A slotted asynchronous (SA) code-divison multipleaccess communication scheme controlling the time of arrival is proposed for distributed spread-spectrum packet radio networks where the transmission range is limited as in an indoor wireless system. In this scheme, each terminal can send its packet randomly at any one of Nw possible time instants, equally spaced over one period of direct-sequence...

This paper considers cognitive radio networks (CRNs) utilizing multiple time-slotted primary channels in which cognitive users (CUs) are powered by energy harvesters. The CUs are under the consideration that hardware constraints on radio devices only allow them to sense and transmit on one channel at a time. For a scenario where the arrival of harvested energy packets and the battery capacity a...

In this paper, a hybrid overlay/underlay cognitive radio system is modeled as an M/M/1 queue where the rate of arrival and the service capacity are subject to Poisson alternations. Each packet as a customer arriving at the queue makes a decision to join the queue or not. Upon arrival, the individual decision of each packet is optimized based on his observation about the queue length and the sta...
